To strengthen security operations in Ikwerre Local Government Area, the chairman, Charles Wobodo, has provided operational vehicles to security agencies and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and other security personnel.

Wobodo spoke in Isiokpo, the council headquarters, during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

He paid tribute to fallen soldiers who lost their lives in the defense of the nation and said the local government would continue to take practical steps to reinforce its security framework.

According to him, the council remains focused on supporting serving, retired and disabled security officers as part of efforts to improve safety across communities in the area.

The chairman also assured that widows of fallen servicemen would not be abandoned, noting that they would be accommodated in the council’s social welfare programmes.

At the event, Wobodo made a cash donation to members of the Nigerian Legion and urged them to maintain cooperation with the local government.

Speaking earlier, Major Joseph Obina Wonuma described the occasion as significant and called on the council chairman to give priority to the welfare, employment and empowerment of ex-servicemen
