Impeachment: More Loyalists Throw Wike Under The Bus

This must be a very despicable moment for the FCT minister and enfante terrible of Rivers politics, Nyesom Wike, as some of his loyalists are gradually getting off his hook and moving towards the side of the governor, Sim Fubara.

A few days ago, minority Leader of the assembly, Sylvanus Enyinna Nwankwo, and Peter Abbey, who represents Degema State Constituency, had announced their withdrawal from the impeachment moves against the governor.

On Wednesday, two others, among them one of those representing his local government in the Assembly, also pulled out, signalling a serious slap on Wike’s ego.

It is even speculated that more of the legislators will leave Wike in the coming days, following signals that the president, Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership are fully with Fubara and against Wike’s egoistic influence on the state.

Wike is even at war with the APC for their decision to side Fubara, the man he has sworn will not smell the seat of power after May 29, 2027. The minister is already shopping for a replacement.

He even said recently that he would be buried politically if Fubara was wallowed to return to power. But the APC’s body language and that of the president seem to be against his decision. His efforts and resources to undermine Fubara doesn’t seem to have yielded fruits.

Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I, and Hon. Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, in announcing their u-turn against Wike’s impeachment option, also urged their colleagues to halt the impeachment proceedings, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy could better resolve tensions between the executive and legislative arms of the state government.

At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Nwakoh said: “We speak for ourselves and not for the House of Assembly. While we were part of the notice of allegation of gross misconduct against the governor and deputy governor, we have been urged by Rivers leaders and people to seek a political solution rather than pursue impeachment. This is not a sign of weakness but a demonstration of a forgiving heart and a commitment to constructive governance.”

Amadi who also spoke at the press conference said however urged the governor and his deputy to adhere to constitutional provisions and honor past agreements under presidential supervision could pave the way for reconciliation.
