How To Stop Building Collapse, Says Royal Father

The Nigeria Institution of Safety Engineers has inaugurated a new leadership in the Rivers State chapter, with Mr John Chinedu Onyemenam as its new chairman.

At the event, Dr. Temple Ejekwu, Paramount Ruler / Nyewe-Eli Rumuogba Kingdom who was the royal father of the day expressed concern on the need for safety rules and regulations, particularly now when there are lots of building collapse.

Ejekwu maintained that as a paramount ruler, he would do everything possible to propagate the need to keep to safety rules and regulations in his domain. He stated that if members of the public could discipline themselves and follow proper building regulations, the issue of building collapse will be the things of the past.

In an interview shortly after the event, the new chairman said any company that neglects safety rules and standard did so at their own peril, noting that without observing all safety rules either at home or place of work the situation will end in jeopardy. He said his tenure would witness massive safety campaigns and seminar across the state.

“Due to corruption and negligence of safety rules and standards, many people have lost their lives when buildings collapse, a situation that have caused sadness to many families,” he said.

He used the event to express his readiness to work with the governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike in making sure all safety guidelines were judiciously obeyed to reduce death rate in the state.

He said he would collaborate with the media to deliver his mandate and that he had trained many secondary school students on safety measures and knowledge such as fire outbreak among others.
