Homeless Rivers Residents Desert Community Over Insecurity

Some natives of Obele Community in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, are homeless and unwilling to return to their community for fear of been killed.
The natives fled Obele community after five persons were gruesomely killed following a clash that ensued between rival cult groups.
The incident happened last Wednesday night, when suspected cultists invaded the community, moving from one house to another in search of their targets and killed five persons in different compounds in the community.
The killing has thrown the community into panic. While some residents fled their homes to seek refuge in other communities and LGAs, those who remained are living in fear.
Worried over the incident, a concerned citizen, Mr. Bestman Amadi, has called on the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to come to the aide of the people.
Amadi lamented that “old parents and community members have been stranded, seeking refuge from the insecurity that has plagued their homes.
“The people of Obele deserve better. They deserve to feel safe and secure in their homes.”
He also expressed “deep concern and disappointment over the inaction of the local government chairman and prominent Emolga politicians regarding the plight of the people of Obele community.
“It is appalling that the local government leadership has not taken concrete measures to ensure the safe return of those stranded individuals.
“As the chief executive of the local government, it is their responsibility to provide adequate security, shelter and support to those affected.
“I implore you to take immediate action to address this crisis and provide relief to those affected.”
