Critical stakeholders from the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State say they are happy with the quality of representation they are getting from Dr Alex Egbona as their voice in the House of Representatives.
This came during and after the mid-term report card presentation by Egbona at a town hall meeting, considered to be the first since the advent of democracy in 1999. Among those who have spoken glowingly about Egbona is Elder Bolaji Anani, a political leader from the constituency.
At the town hall meeting which held last weekend, Anani, who used to be the national financial secretary of the PDP before defecting to the APC scored Egbona very high in terms of performance. He said the legislator had over delivered on his mandate.
The president of the Red Cross Society said the fact that people were either unable to ask questions or probe Egbona’s two years in the National Assembly was a testimony to the fact that he had done well for the federal constituency.
At the event, Prof John Ofem Inyang had also commended Egbona for attracting various empowerment and capital projects to the constituency. He said it was amazing how the legislator was able to combine his core legislative duties of sponsoring bills and motions with the execution of projects for the good of the people.
He however confessed that he and other members of the PDP as at the time of the 2019 election, were mandated to work towards the failure of Egbona during the election and added that all their efforts yielded no efforts because of the legislator’s grassroots’ popularity, which stood him out as the only APC member at the time to secure victory at the polls.
Egbona had presented a score card which reflected various projects attracted to the area, including solar-powered street lights, roads, classroom blocks and health centre rehabilitation, boreholes et cetera.
Also, various empowerment programmes were organised, where the people were trained in various vocations and also given starter packs. The mega empowerment programme he organised saw hundreds of the constituents going away with grinding machines, motorcycles, tricycles et cetera, while school children were also given exercise books and other educational materials.
The lawmaker had announced that the new Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, which establishment processes he initiated through the bill he sponsored, will expectedly take-off effectively, as provisions have been made for it in the 2022 budget.
Chairman of Abi Local Government, Farathor Robinson Riman who also spoke at the town hall meeting said he was proud of Egbona and what he had done so far for the entire constituency.
Meanwhile, Chief Okoin Obono Obla, a chieftain of the APC from Yakurr Local Government and former aide of President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Egbona for second term as member of the House of Representatives.
He said he decided to endorse him because of his towering capacity and outstanding representation. According to him, the constituency had never had it so good since 1999.
