The National Forest and Hunters Defence Authority (NFDA) has described the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri as a leader who would stop at nothing in ensuring that peace reigns in the State.
The Bayelsa State Commandant of the NFDA, Mr. Moses Okanu made the assertion while speaking to our correspondent in his office in Yenagoa, the State capital on the activities of the authority.
The commandant said the core mandate of the NFDA was to conduct surveillance activities concerning herdsmen on open nomadic livestock rearing and grazing in Bayelsa State.
Acknowledging sport from the State government, Okanu also appealed to the governor to provide them with logistics to effectively check and forestall Herders/farmers clashes in the State.
“What will make us more effective is one, salary. Two, we need working tools, arms and ammunition, and three, we need vehicles. We also need communication gadgets.
“The major issue in Bayelsa State is the herders’ and farmers’ clashes in the bush. These are the issues we deal with because we confront them on daily basis, chasing them from the farms and deterring them from attacking the farmers.
“We also effect arrest of the ones found wanting within our reach. These are the issues we face on daily basis,” he explained.
On the issue of the prevalence of banditry in different parts of the country, the commandant commended the relentless effort of governor Diri in ensuring that Bayelsa remained safe.
“In the area of banditry, we are not ignorant of what is happening in this nation. But the executive governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri has never relented effort in making sure that every nooks and cranny is being combed. The forest guards are working.
“All we need is logistics because we have our men everywhere,” he concluded, expressing optimism that the governor, whom he described as security and peace advocate, would continue to support them for increased productivity.
