Senator Douye Diri, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state, yesterday, urged party supporters and the people of Nembe to avoid reprisal attacks after the killings that took place at Basambiri in Nembe local government area during PDP rally on Wednesday.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday, Diri, who described the insidence as unfortunate, accused the opposition APC for unleashing the mayhem on PDP members who were on a peaceful rally.
Diri noted with dismay that six persons, including a Radio Bayelsa Outside Braodcast (OB) van driver, Simon Onu died during the ugly incidence.

He alleged that members of the APC in Nembe Kingdom have ordered that all PDP members, both indigenes and none indigenes, should leave the community before the election, calling on the security agencies to ensure that there was a peaceful atmosphere for every body to vote candidate of their choice on election day.
“We are a party that abhors violence. We are a party that, even when we are being killed, we are still preaching peace. Rather than apologizing to Bayelsans, they are going about with propaganda, adding more sult to the injury.
“As a party that stands by the rule of law, we have refrained all our members from any reprisal attacks. we are calling on all the security agencies that justice must be served on those that carried out that dastardly act on that particular incidence.
“We are calling on evebody to see the interest of Bayelsans as above their personal interests. It should be seen as a brotherly affair, not war,” he added.
Meanwhile, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, in an earlier press briefing, attributed the killings in Nembe to internal crisis within the peoples democratic party.
