C’River LG Chair Goes Against Royal Fathers Over Visit by PDP

Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council, Ndabo Efeffiong Nta, on Wednesday locked out the traditional rulers from the area in an apparent move to stop the royal fathers from receiving members of the PDP governorship campaign.
Traditional rulers from virtually all parts of the state have been lamenting over the way they are being treated by the government under Prof Ben Ayade. They had complained of being paid peanuts.
Some of the traditional rulers have even started denying some of the things they said on camera, for fear of what the governor might do to them.

On Wednesday, the PDP campaign team was to visit the Calabar Municipality traditional rulers at their secretariat, but early in the morning, the local government chairman locked up the place and went away with the key. He is of the APC, just as the governor.
The royal fathers led by the Ndidem of The Quas and Grand Patriarch of the Ejagham Nation, Ndidem Eta Eteta were expected to meet with the Cross River PDP Governorship Campaign Team at the Council of Chief Chambers located within the local government council premises.
Security operatives who claimed to be acting based on instructions took over the premises and prevented the royal fathers from getting close.
A council staff who preferred anonymity revealed that the council chairman personally locked the chamber because members of the opposition party were to visit the chiefs.
Reacting, the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, Ndidem Eta Eteta described the action of the Chairman as an “affront and unmitigated embarrassment”
According to him, “this chamber is the official venue for all our routine engagements. We came here today following the request of the PDP for a meeting with members of the traditional institution in Calabar Municipal only to discover that our Chamber has been locked to deny us access. This is why we are outside here. I have never been subjected to this sort of embarrassment “
Calls to the chairman on Thursday morning were rejected and he never returned the calls.
