Bakassi Ruler: How Obasanjo Promised, Failed To Build My Palace
1 min read
Paramount Ruler of Bakassi and Chairman of the Cross River State Council of Traditional Rulers, Etinyin Etim Okon Edet has lamented that he has not been able to function in his traditional office in Bakassi because he does not have a palace.
He has also regretted that whereas former president, Olusegun Obasanjo promised to build a palace for him, he never did so until he left office. He also said it was unfortunate that governors of his state, since the time Bakassi was ceded to Cameroun, from the days of Donald Duke to the present day, have not been able to build the palace.
He said these while receiving the governorship campaign team of the PDP in his palace in Calabar. The royal father said it was necessary for politicians to appreciate the importance of the traditional institution and give it the due regard.
In our earlier report, we had quoted the traditional ruler as having said that the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade was the one who promised to build the palace in question. But it was actually Obasanjo that made the promise.
Ayade only promised to build a palace for the Obong of Calabar and is yet to do it. Our earlier report mixed up these facts.
