Buhari’s Aide, Commissioner At War Over Akwa Ibom Roads

2 min read

The special assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang and the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Works, Ephraim Inyang have locked horns over the amount of money refunded by the federal Government for the federal roads rehabilitated by the previous state administration.
Enang had, in a recent radio programme disclosed that the Federal Government had refunded seventy Eight billion Naira, being money spent by the state government, during the tenure of senator Godswill Akpabio as governor, to rehabilitate federal roads in the state.
However, in a swift reaction, the state commissioner of works Eprhaim Inyang Eyen, while inspecting a gully erosion portion, along the deplorable Calabar-Itu Road said the federal government only refunded 20 billion out of the 78 billion approved by the National Assembly for the rehabilitation of federal roads in the state, describing the presidents aide as a liar.
He charged federal government officials from the state to draw the attention of Mr. President to the total breakdown of the highway and the general deplorable state of all federal roads in Akwa Ibom State.
However, in a related development, a human Rights advocacy group, Conscience Group International, has berated the governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel and his Cross River counterpart, Ben Ayade for failing to provide for the immediate needs of their people.
Speaking through their National President, Barrister Cyprian Ikwot, the group agreed that the road is a federal government road, but charged the two governors to emulate Senator Godswill Akpabio, who rehabilitated federal roads in the state as a matter of urgent public importance.
