Aggrieved by the murder of their member, Mr Emmanuel Eden, bolt drivers took to the streets of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on a protest to demand justice.

The drivers on Friday, in their hundreds, hit the streets with placards which had inscriptions such as: ‘stop harassing bolt drivers”, “bolt drivers are bread winners of a family”, “we need better security”, no to brutality and killings”, “Gov. Diri come to our aids.”

Eden was reportedly shot dead on May 29, 2025, at Samphino Junction in the Kpansia axis of Yenagoa.

The protesters took off from Tombia junction and marched through the state capital.

They appealed to the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, to take necessary actions to bring justice to the deceased family.

Report also revealed that some members of the Nigerians Union of Journalists (NUJ) and some Civil Society groups joined the protest in solidarity.

Speaking during the protest, a certain Mr. Jolly Adomokeme, told newsmen that they were on a peaceful march.

Adokeme said, “though police has been a friend, some bad eggs among them have displayed acts against civil members of the society.

“Police should do their work and stop harassing bold drivers and passengers.

“The police should also stop unnecessary extortion of our passengers.”

Another Bolt driver, Goodness Okure, said “the protesters were out to call on the Nigerian Police and the Bayelsa State Government to investigate and arrest those behind the dastardly act.

“Late Eden left behind a young family of one wife and two kids.”
