Leaders in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has charged the state Police command to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
This charge is coming following the political crisis in the state between the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and his successor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
The charge which came shortly after a leadership meeting of the LGA, also urged the Police to remain neutral in all they do.
At a briefing in Port Harcourt, attended by former councilors, security group, youth and community leaders in the LGA, the state chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN, Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, presented the resolution reached during the said LGA leaders meeting.
He read them to be as follows:
“1) That the leaders of Obio Akpor Local Government Area condemn the attack on the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, by the security operatives and the attempt by some disgruntled undemocratic elements in the name of Rivers State House Assembly to impeach the Governor.
“2. To support the Rivers State Governor in thick and thin, come rain and sunshine.
“3. That the Rivers State Governor has not failed Rivers people and Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in particular and as a result, Obio/Akpor people will continue to support the Governor.

“4. That Obio/Akpor leaders congratulate Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS on his well-deserved victory at the Court of Appeal and his detractors to stop forthwith.
“5. We congratulate Rt Hon Edison hie, the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly on his emergency as the Speaker of the Rivers State House Assembly and condemn the attack on him and his family by Nigeria Police.

“6. We advise Nigeria Police to be professional in their conduct and remain neutral in all they do.”
He further prayed God to, “continue to direct your Excellency’s steps and protect him in his quest to better the lives of Rivers people.”
