Bayelsa Guber: Diri is Unopposed
1 min read
For the first time in the history of Bayelsa State, a governorship aspirant will be going in for the primary election of the PDP unopposed. As at the time the party closed the sale of nomination forms, only the state governor, Senator Douye Diri bought the form.
But in the APC, about five persons are said to have purchased the form, including the minister of state for petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva and a former candidate of the party during the 2019 election, David Lyon.

Diri is seeking a re-election. The party’s primary election is likely going to be held just to fulfil all righteousness. TNN learnt on Monday that no other aspirant was bold enough to come out to pick up the form.
With the development, Diri is making history as the first aspirant that will not be challenged in a PDP primary election. Past incumbent governors in the state have always put up through strenuous efforts before getting a second term ticket of the party.
Chief Press Secretary of the governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah told TNN in an interview that the governor may have attained the feat because all stakeholders believe that he deserved to get the ticket without sweats, having done well during his first term.
