Bayelsa Civil Service Goes Digital

The Head of Service (HOS) in Bayelsa State, Mr. Wisdom Sawyer says the digitalisation project going on in the state civil service will deliver mutual benefits to both employees and the state government.

Sawyer stated this while inaugurating a training programme at the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology at the state secretariat in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

The head of service notes that the initiative aims to replace cumbersome, people based processes with efficient electronic system to ease service delivery and increase productivity.

According to Sawyer, the programme includes basic computer training, document digitalisation and secured data storage to improve operational efficiencies and supporting staff development.

The HOS further explains that the programme will be conducted in phases amongst Ministries, Departments and Agencies (ADAs) and parastatals, beginning from personnel in the office of the head of service before extending to other government institutions.

He discloses that the distribution of the newly digitalised identification cards has begun, starting from permanent secretaries and newly recruited staff to serve as official identification purposes, including use of banks and airports.

The head of service emphasises that digital promotion exercises will be based on merit, urging civil and public servants to key into the policy of building an efficient morden civil service.
