Chairman of Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, Bassey Egbala and the House of Representatives member from Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of the state, Dr Alex Egbona met on Tuesday as part of the end of year celebrations and used the opportunity to chart a way forward for the APC in the local government.

This came even as the lawmaker has distributed bags of rice to every member of the APC family as well as non-party members, in the spirit of the Christmas celebrations.

Egbala who visited Egbona in his country home at Ekureku, Abi LGA expressed appreciation to God for keeping everyone alive and specifically eulogized Egbona for his uncommon representation in the National Assembly.

He said he was in Egbona’s home with his entourage as a sign of respect to a man that has shown capacity and exemplary leadership. According to him, Egbona was a father that deserved to be honoured at all times.

He also said it was important for all stakeholders from the local government to come together and work in unity to grow the local government, saying divisive tendencies would only bring the local government backwards.

In response, Egbona expressed gratitude to the chairman for the visit and praised him what he called the early signs of leadership qualities and determination to work for the people.

He recalled how the chairman decided to join him during the comprehensive medical outreach which he embarked on, sometime in November. Egbona said with the behaviour and disposition of the chairman, he would go places in politics and other aspects of human endeavor.

The lawmaker said it would be hypocritical for anyone to think that the APC family in the local government was without challenges. But he expressed the hope that all differences could be sorted out the moment the stakeholders decide to think of general good first, before personal interests.

In distributing the rice and cash to his constituents, Egbona said it was his tradition to support his people to enjoy the season. He noted that it was always a thing of joy for him to put smiles on the faces of his constituents, not just during periods of festivities.
