The Bayelsa State Polytechnic, Aleibiri chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its industrial action.
Academic work resumed at the institution on Friday 9th, 2026 following a fruitful meeting held between the management of ASUU and the statement government.
The meeting with ASUU management was held in government house, Yenagoa, with the State governor Senator Douye Diri, his deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe and other top government officials in attendance.
In a statement, the institution’s ASUU chapter chairman, Dr. Oyin-Emi Ogbomah, said the national body of the union approved the suspension of the strike following the outcome of the meeting and the governor’s request that the industrial action be called off.
The strike was triggered by protest against the reappointment of the retired former Rector of the institution by the governor with ASUU insisting that the industrial action was to protect the integrity of the polytechnic sector and not directed at anyone.
The statement directed all academic staff of the union to resume academic and all official activities, including board meetings.
The statement also commended members for their resilience and the institution for their solidarity during the struggle, adding that the chapter’s ASUU would continue to promote peace and unity amongst members.
