The hue and cry over the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has ended, with Tuesday’s action by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC finally taking a final decision on the tussle.
Even though INEC had since recognised Abdulrahman Mohammed as national secretary of the party, as shown on its website, Ahmed Yayari and Daniel Woyengikuro had remained on the website as national treasurer and treasurer respectively.
The duo belong to the group loyal to Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, SAN. But their names have been replaced with those of Odeyemi Mackson Oladiran and Eyim Donatus Henry as the new national secretary and treasurer. They are of the group led by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
INEC had earlier recognised the FCT Minister’s faction by putting the names of Abdulrahman Mohammed as the National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary, but had left the names of Ahmed Yayari and Daniel as part of the executives, a situation which created confusion.
With the recent update on its portal, all executives of the PDP on INEC’s portal are now aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
This week, Mohammed and Anyanwu attended a meeting with INEC, alongside leaders of other political parties. The Turaki group has never been invited by INEC to any meeting, neither has the commission acted on any of their correspondences.
Also, INEC officials have always attended programmes, primaries and other activities organised by the Wike-led PDP.
