How Egbona’s Intervention Is Bringing Peace To Warring C’River Communities

Calm is returning to warring Ugep and Idomi communities of Yakurr Local Government, following peace talks initiated by Dr Alex Egbona, the member representing the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State.

The lawmaker has already been applauded by the Obol Lopon of Idomi, Obol Ofem Inah Edet, who was full of praises for taking the pains and mobilizing resources towards the peace talks that is believed to calmed the situation.

On Tuesday evening, the Idomi monarch had called Egbona to express the appreciation of his people for his role in the journey towards lasting peace between the two communities who have been at loggerheads over farmland.

Egbona has mobilized the leadership and members of the Abi/Yakurr Peoples Assembly to the peace meeting at the palace of the Obol Lopon Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government, HRM Ofem Ubana Eteng.

At the meeting, the Obol Lopon ofUgep lamented the communal clash and the losses suffered by the people, but stressed that Ugep people would not engage their Idomi neighbours in a fight, as that would amount to fighting themselves.

Some of those who went on the peace meeting included Sir Patrick Iwara, Elder Bolaji Anani, Professor John Inyang, Professor Mbeh, Professor William Nkanu, Professor Joseph Asor, Gen. Ukaegu, Colonel Jubi and Okoi Obono-Obla, as well as all heads of maternal families, clan heads and village heads.
