Rivers Students Demand Immediate Release of Scholarships, Bursaries

National Union of Rivers State Students NURSS, has raised the alarm over critical issues affecting students of the state.

NURSS National President, Uranta Justice Sunday, who led a delegation to the office of the state Commissioner for Education, Dr Nwagor Peters, called for the immediate payment of scholarships, bursaries and grants to eligible Rivers students.

NURSS also demanded an urgent rehabilitation of the deteriorating hostels at the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology RIVCOSMAT.

Other demands made by the students association were the construction of a standard sports complex for Rivers State students to promote talent development, healthy competition, and youth empowerment.

They also called for “improved welfare policies and sustained government support for Rivers State students.

“A monthly or annual subvention to the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) Worldwide – National Secretariat to strengthen the Union’s capacity to effectively represent and serve students across the state.”

Further, the national president expressed hope that the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, would be brief by the commissioner and that appropriate actions will be taken to address these genuine concerns.

“We will continue to engage constructively with government, advocate for better opportunities, and work tirelessly to ensure that the voices of Rivers State students are heard and respected.

“‎This engagement also further reaffirm our position as the legitimate and authentic leadership of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) Worldwide – National Secretariat, committed to selfless service, accountability, and results.



“‎Together, we will continue to build a brighter future for every Rivers State student.”
