By John Ovie, YENAGOA

The George Turnah led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state has conferred the status of Deputy Governorship Candidate on Joshua MacIver.

The conferment has now made MacIver leader of the peoples democratic party in Bayelsa state.

MacIver, who recently defected to the PDP, was the running mate to Chief Timipre Sylva on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa state, which the incumbent governor, Senator Douye Diri won for a second term.

The conferment exercise was done during the 99th state executive council and stakeholders meeting of the PDP held at the party secretariat in Yenagoa and presided over by the state chairman, Turnah.

MacIver was also made a member and representative of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) at the national level as a mark of honour to him.

The state chairman, George Turnah expressed satisfaction that the PDP has gained widespread grassroots acceptance across the state.

The chairman further urged party leaders and stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilization, especially as the ongoing e-registration and revalidation exercise enters a critical phase across communities, wards, and local government areas in the state.

Responding, MacIver thanked the chairman and state executive council for the honour done him, adding that, with hard work and commitment, the PDP will bounce back and reclaim leadership of the state in 2027.

He posited that Bayelsa has the resources and manpower to develop itself if the right people are in position of leadership.

The party also passed a vote of confidence in the national leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the Turnah led state executive council.
