
Mr. Abubakar Zubairu has assumed office as the ninth Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Zone 16 Police Command at the zonal headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The new AIG who was received by senior officers of the zonal command, traditional rulers and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) is replacing the out gone AIG, Johnson Adenola who has proceeded on retirement after attaining the age of 60 years.
Speaking to newsmen upon his arrival at the zonal headquarters, zubairu said he would continue from where his predecessor stopped and build on the existing peace in Rivers and Bayelsa States that make up the zone 16 command.
He solicited the support of the two sister States to enable him achieve his zero tolerance for crime in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police.
“The two CPs will be working under me. I will closely supervise them to ensure that they do what is expected of them.
“We are going to continue from where the last AIG has stopped. By the grace of God, we are going to fight crime to a standstill.
“We are servants of members of the public. They are our masters. We are ready to serve them but we wish that they furnish us we valuable information to help us check crime in all its ramifications,” the new AIG added.
The zonal Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Gunn Ewhobowho, who described Zubairu as an erudite crime fighter, expressed confidence that he will bring his experience and expertise to bare in his new posting.

He also sought cooperation of members of the public and men of the zonal command with the new AIG.
Also speaking, chairman of the zonal PCRC, Moses Omonkuale pledged full support and cooperation with the AIG.
