Ogboinbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is in the news again barely three weeks ago when the coastal town was embroiled in intra-communal violence that let to lost of a youth and wanton destruction of property.
The crisis was so intense that it left the State governor, Senator Douye Diri with no option than to sack the paramount ruler and his council as well as the youth leadership in the community.
The Bayelsa state Police Command on Monday also confirmed the arrest of
14 suspects with firearms, live ammunition, speed boats and other exhibits at same Ogboinbiri community.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Musa Mohammed.
According to the statement, “preliminary investigation revealed that on 10th May, 2026, at about 1430 hours, police operatives attached to the command and personnel of the Joint Task Force, acted on credible intelligence, leading to a search warrant at the premises of one “Lionface,” identified as a loyalist to a former youth president of the community, Mr. Pere Experience, and the deputy paramount ruler of the community.
“During the operation, the operatives recovered four pump-action guns, three packets of cartridges, and four operational speed boats mounted with engines suspected to have been used for criminal activities along the waterways.
“Fourteen suspects were arrested in connection with the operation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the principal suspect, popularly known as “Lionface,” who is currently at large,” the statement reads in parts.
In the statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, commended the operatives, describing the operation as a major success for the command, reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements across the State.
The CP further urged members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and useful information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of crime and criminality.”
