Paul Usoro, SAN, a former president of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, is now the chairman of Access Bank Plc. Usoro is from Akwa Ibom State and succeeds Herbert Wigwe, who has been in that office for some years.
He represented Access Bank as a Non-Executive Director on the board of the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc.
Usoro who holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ife joined Access Bank Board in January 2014 and currently chairs the board’s human resources and sustainability committee as well as the board’s Technical Committee on Retail Expansion. He is also the Vice-Chairman of the Board’s Risk Management.
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the founder and Senior Partner of the Law firm of Paul Usoro & Co. He has over 30 years of law practice experience and is acknowledged as a highly experienced litigator and communication law expert.
In reaction to his elevation, Usoro attributed his appointment as the act of God. He said it was only God that would have made it possible.
It is not clear if Wigwe’s resolve to hand over to Usoro may have some connections with the new university which he is floating in Rivers State. The foundation laying ceremony of the university, Wigwe University, was laid by Nyesom Wike, out-going governor of the state, on Wednesday.
