The University of Port Harcourt has denied a viral video claiming that a snake was killed inside one of its classrooms and was being worshipped as a deity by the university community.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that a large snake was seen sliding down from a classroom ceiling at night and was killed by students.
In a statement by the spokesperson, Dr. Sammy Kpenu, the university described the claim as entirely false and attributed it to mischief-makers seeking online attention.
He stated that no such incident occurred on campus, assuring the public that the university remains safe and urged everyone to refrain from sharing fake news.
Kpenu emphasized that the university takes such incidents seriously and is working to identify those responsible for spreading the rumor, advising students and the general public to rely on official channels for verified information to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure that accurate information is disseminated.
He said: “The claim is entirely false, it’s the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking online attention. No such incident occurred on campus. The university remains safe. We urge everyone to refrain from sharing fake news. We advise students and the general public to rely on official channels for verified information to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure that accurate information is disseminated.”
