Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Lagos State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, has ordered the immediate shut down of an alleged fake juice factory in Badagry.
Keshinro gave this order following the arrest of two women, aged 48 and 50, names withheld, allegedly involved in the production of adulterated “Barkas Juice”, at an illegal factory.
The commandant assured that the suspects would face further investigation and prosecution in collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC, and other relevant agencies.
NSCDC arrested the suspects during production following five days of surveillance conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Army.
The Corps alleged that the juice was made with water, synthetic flavours, industrial sweeteners, artificial colourants and preservatives, without real fruit.
It also alleged that the product carried a fake NAFDAC registration number and was distributed across Lagos, Benin City and other parts of the country.
Items recovered included cartons of the suspected adulterated juice, a truck, machinery, chemicals, drums and a gas cylinder.
