A certain Mrs Susan Moses has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of her husband, Mr Moses Bassey Obatian, over alleged repeated domestic violence and attempted strangulation.
Mrs Moses accused her husband of striking her on the left eye and holding her by the throat in an attempt to strangle her, with evidence obtained from a hospital.
According to her, the most recent incident happened on Wednesday September 16, 2026, at Four Corners Ikom, in Cross River State.
She noted that the assault has resulted to a hip injury causing instability in her gait.
A statement from her lawyer, T.O Teke Law Office and Co, noted that, “our client was severely assaulted on the 16th day of September, 2026 by her husband, MR. Moses Bassey Obatian.
“The assault included being struck on the left eye causing swelling, and being held by the throat in an attempted act of strangulation.
“Medical evidence obtained from Holy Family Hospital, Ikom and documented in Police Medical Form D5 dated 17/09/2026 further revealed that our client suffers from a hip injury causing instability in her gait, sustained from previous assaults.
“The attending doctor stated that “assault has been ongoing right from inception of their marriage.
“Photographic evidence of the injuries has also been obtained.”
Teke stated that, “a report was made at the Nigeria Police Force, Area command, Ikom and the matter is being handled by IPO, Egbe Inyang.
“We condemn in the strongest terms this act of domestic violence and assault occasioning harm contrary to section 355 of the Criminal Code Law and offences under the Cross River State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.
“We commend the Nigeria Police for issuing Form D5 and urge the IPO to ensure immediate arrest and diligent prosecution of Mr. Moses Bassey Obatian.
“There must be no “family settlement” in matters of this nature.
“We are filing an application for protection order at the High Court of Cross River State, to ensure the safety and security of our Client.
“We stand in solidarity with all victims of Gender-Based Violence. The law will not be silent.”
The lawyer further called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Judiciary, and Civil Society to ensure that justice is not only done, but seen to be done in this matter.
“We also urge victims of domestic violence to speak up. Help is available and the law is on your side.”
