To Escape Impeachment, Fubara Throws PDP Under The Bus

Edith CHUKU

To please President Bola Tinubu and forestall actions that may lead to his impeachment, the Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, has abandoned the PDP that stood by him during his trying times.

In throwing the PDP under the bus, Fubara who has been quiet in recent times, found his voice and said on Tuesday night that the only way he could thank Tinubu was to support him by joining his party.

He did not, however, say if his decision to join the APC had the endorsement of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. He did not also say if, by Tuesday’s action, he would find peace with Wike and the state house of assembly.

Only a few days ago, the speaker, Martins Amaewhule and 16 others had defected to the APC. On the same day, they had indicated the readiness to descend on Fubara for failing to submit names of commissioners to them for approval.

Till date, Fubara is yet to name his chief of staff publicly, apparently because the Wike group had insisted that they must nominate the occupant of that office.

With his defection to the APC, it is not clear if all his troubles would be over. It is also not clear if he would have the freedom to run the state as a governor with executive powers, like his colleagues.
