Minister of State, Petroleum and former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva is now ready to fight with David Lyon, his former political godson, for the APC gubernatorial ticket in the state. It will be Sylva’s second attempt to return to the same seat, after his first term ended abruptly.
Last week, Lyon, the party’s former candidate who won the 2015 election but who was not inaugurated because of a late hour Supreme Court judgement, had picked the form for the same N50 million that Sylva paid.
Last year, Sylva had made an attempt to contest the presidential election of the APC but had to backslide when it dawned on him that he would not make it and may also lose his ministerial position. He lost the N100 million spent to buy the form.
As at Monday, it was not clear if more people will buy the form. But a faction of the APC in the state is controlled by Sylva, while a former minister of agriculture in the state, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri controls the second faction.

Only recently, a high court in the state sacked the exco promoted by Sylva and also sacked all the candidates for this Saturday’s election from that faction. The matter is pending in the court of appeal.
