The Rivers State Police command has taken another proactive step to ensure that criminal elements are denied opportunity to conceal their identities.

This is following a declaration on Monday, of a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles with covered, obscured, unauthorized, defaced or no registration number plates.

The command’s spokesperson, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, noted that the exercise was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The exercise is aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening security and denying criminal elements the opportunity to conceal their identities and unlawful activities.

According to the state Police command, “the enforcement exercise will commence on Monday, 15th June, 2026.

“The operation will be led by the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, who has directed all area commanders and divisional police officers across the state to commence immediate enforcement of the directive and ensure full compliance within their respective areas of responsibility.”

The CP further directed that any vehicle found violating the directive should be impounded, while offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.

The command therefore urged all vehicle owners and motorists in the state to ensure that their registration number plates are properly affixed, clearly visible and free from any form of obstruction or alteration in order to avoid arrest, impoundment of vehicles or prosecution.

Also, all officers participating in the enforcement exercise are sternly warned to carry out their duties professionally, lawfully, and with utmost respect for the rights of citizens.

The CP warned that “the exercise must not under any circumstance, be used as a means of harassment, intimidation or extortion of members of the public.

“Any officer found engaging in unprofessional conduct or extortion will face strict disciplinary action.

“The Rivers State Police command remains committed to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and sustaining proactive measures aimed at improving public safety across the state.”
