The Rivers State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr. Aaron Chukwuemeka, has debunked the claim that he played a major role in the October 5th local government election that led to the emergence of Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, as Obio/Akpor LGA chairman.

Recall that in an interview with TNN correspondent, the Director General of Strong Workshop, Mr Emmanuel Bekwelem Chuku, had commended the PDP chair, alleging that he overwhelmingly supported Ihunwo and the Ward 14 Councillor, Mr. Bright Wobo to emerge victorious in the election.

Chukwuemeka in a release by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kenneth Yowika, described the assertion as a campaign of calumny.

The statement read, “the attention of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, has been drawn to a malicious news item that was aired by Nigerian Info News at 6am on Thursday, October 31st, 2024 on behalf of one Mr. Emmanuel Bekwelem Chuku.

“Mr. Chuku had stated that he was appreciating the PDP Chairman Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron for his support for Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo and the Councillor representing Ward 14 in Obio Akpor for their election victories. This is baseless.

“We would like to remind the public that the PDP strongly opposed the October 5th election. Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron, who has clearly stated in various forums that the party would not participate in the election, would not stoop so low as to engage in any unethical or illegal activities related to an election that the court had already declared invalid through its judgment.

“In fact, Hon. Aaron does not know Mr. Emmanuel Bekwelem Chuku, and he would never be involved in such deceitful schemes.”

It further urged, “individuals like Mr. Emmanuel Bekwelem Chuku to stop misinforming the public and retract their statements, their wicked intentions, along with those of their cohorts and pay masters, to tarnish the well-built image of Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron has failed on arrival.”
