Rivers NUJ Reaffirms Commitment To Agenda-Setting Role On Eid-El-kabir Celebration

On this year’s Eid-El-Kabir celebration, the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Rivers State council, has reaffirmed its commitment to reinforce it’s agenda-setting role in the state fostering peace and unity among all citizens.

The council gave this assurance in a statement on Friday, by its chairman Mr Paul Bazia -Nsaneh and secretary Ijeoma Tubosia.

In their message of felicitation to the entire Muslim faithfuls in the state, NUJ urged Muslims to embrace the core values of love, forgiveness, tolerance, almsgiving, and sacrifice that are central to Eid-el-Kabir.

They called on journalist to always uphold the cardinal principles of the journalism profession, which is truth and accuracy.

“Journalists cannot always guarantee ‘truth’, but getting the facts right is the cardinal principle of journalism.

“We should always strive for accuracy, give all the relevant facts we have and ensure that they have been checked.

“We implore our Muslim brothers and sisters, particularly those in the journalism profession to intensify their efforts in reporting the truth for the peace of the State sacrificing for one another, demonstrating love, and forgiveness, among members of the Union and the State at Large.”

The council further prayed that Allah’s blessings continue to shower upon them as they celebrate this joyous occasion.
