But for the plea by his wife whose face was redesigned by the husband, a suspended member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Ovat Dickson Agbor would still be groaning in police detention by now.
But he was left off the hook and allowed to go home when the wife begged police authorities to set him free and allow her to go home with him, so that they can settle their issues, TNN has learnt.
Agbor, who represents Obubra State Constituency in the house of assembly has been in the news for assaulting his wife who nearly lost her two eyes due to excessive panel-beating by the man who left his legislative duties to practice the Mike Tyson exploits on the wife.
For his action, which has been condemned by the public, his colleagues suspended him indefinitely. After the initial denial, he was to own up and apologise to the wife, her family, his colleagues, the governor and his wife, as well as his constituents, for his shameful showing.
Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River Command, Mr Eitokpah Sunday, as Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, confirmed to TNN on Wednesday, that Agbor was released on bail to a trusted family member, following the wife’s plea for mercy.
He said “Following an invitation by the command, Ovat Dickson Agbor and his wife honoured the invitation and reported to the Police for interrogation and questioning regarding the complaint.
“During the engagement, both parties indicated willingness to resolve their differences, following appeals made by the wife. The honourable(sic) member has since been released to a reliable surety, while the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal advice upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.”
