Rivers LG Boss Promises Corps Members Monthly Allowance

In a bid to cushion the effect of the harsh economic realities in the country, the Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Monday Dumiye, has promised National Youth Service Corps members monthly stipend.
This was made known to TNN on Tuesday, in a statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations, of the state NYSC, Mr. Christian Okereke.
Okereke revealed that the chairman announced the decision when corps members led by their local government inspector, Mrs. Joy Dim, paid the chairman a visit in his office, to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
He revealed that Dumiye also assured the corpers of the readiness of his administration to immediately renovate the corpers lodge in order to meet expectations.
The lg boss further stressed the need for corps members to have, “a modest, decent, attractive and comfortable accommodation worthy of their status “as graduates, elite youths and leaders of tomorrow.”
In a related development, Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Dr. Gift Okere has revealed his preparedness to build new corpers lodges across communities in the LGA, as stated in the same release.
Okere was quoted to have explained that the development was borne out of the need for corps members serving outside the council headquarters to also have suitable accommodation for themselves in order to be motivated to discharge their duties efficiently.
According to the statement, the chairman gave this assurance when he received the NYSC local government inspector, Mr. Darlington Obiandu and his assistant, Mrs. Leci Giniwa in his office during a congratulatory visit.
He described NYSC, “as the nation’s beautiful bride that must be loved and cared for by all Nigerians.”
