Johnson, in an interview with TNN, blamed the little boys action on hardship and poor parenting.

He explained that he was heartbroken when he heard that the boy had lost his father, having just his mother to care for him and his other siblings.

The Eneka Central CSO said as at the time he got the report, the boy had already been handed over to the police.

According to him, “the team that caught the teenager is a community security in Eneka, not Eneka Central Security Team, Okay? It is a community security that secures close to Eneka Police Station.

“I feel heart broken, pained, worried. He was interrogated, they asked him how long he has been stealing, I saw that in the video, he said that he has been doing it for long, they asked him about his parents, he said that his dad is late, but his mum is alive. Before I could reach the team they had already handed him over to the police.

“It’s the community security that arrested him, me I am central. When I called the community CSO and inquired, he said they caught him stealing noodles and recharge cards, they asked him how he got into the house, he said he entered the house while the owners were sleeping and he stole the things. They asked him again if he has been coming there, he said no, they asked how he knew the place was open, he said, according to the CSO, that he had been monitoring them.

“After explaining to me, I asked the CSO what he did after the interrogation, he told me they took him to the police station.”

Johnson added that, “I feel terrible that a child that should be studying to pass his exams, become useful to himself, his family, the society and nation at large was caught stealing, and from what they told me, he took time to monitor the environment, he is a child, his academic, playing with his mates, going to church, helping his mother in the house should be all he thinks about, I am yet to get that image off my head, I feel really bad about this development and wish his father was still alive.

“Ours is to catch and hand over to the police. What we normally do is to call the DPO of the station and hand over to police, it is the police that treats the matter, our duty is to apprehend and then hand over, nothing more. I pray earnestly that this boy turns a new leave, I pray he becomes a better person, especially for his mother, God will help us.”
