No commissioner has been sacked, neither has any local government chairman been removed from office, says the special assistant to the governor on media, Mr Boniface Onyedi. Onyedi said this in a telephone interview with TNN on Monday night.

His position was corroborated by the commissioner for information, Mr Joe Johnson, who issued a statement on Tuesday morning to the effect. In the statement, the commissioner said at at Tuesday morning, the governor was yet to issue any directive to that effect.

In the statement, he said “there has been unfounded reports making the rounds on various media platforms about His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.

“This is to clarify that His Excellency has not given me such directive as the official spokesman of the  State government as at today Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Our dear governor is a technocrat, with robust civil service background, kind hearted and a  very humane person who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.

“We therefore ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who and who may have been removed  by His Excellency at the appropriate time.

“It is pertinent to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I shall keep the public updated of events in due course.”

This is coming even as youths have decided to take over the main entrance gate of the Government House. As at this morning, food were being prepared and given to the youths who say they will continue to stay at the gate to prevent people from hurting the governor.

Meanwhile, there were reports on Tuesday morning, that hoodlums broke into the warehouse where fuel subsidy palliatives were kept at the Ahoada West local government. It happened hours after information went out, that the chairman had been sacked by the governor.
