Rivers Allocation: Militants Regroup, Now On Stand-By

A group of masked and heavily armed youths who referred to themselves as the Niger Delta Rescue Movement, have urged non-Indigenes in Rivers State, to leave the state.
They said the warning was following a possible escalation of the political unrest in the state.
The Niger Delta group expressed concern over the safety of lives and property of the none rivers natives, in a viral video on Thursday.
In the video, the unidentified masked men expressed worry over the recent development in the state and called on the president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene immediately and out to stop, the actions of the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike and his associates.
They accused Wike and his men of dragging the state into an avoidable crisis, insisting that the people of the state deserved better.
The spokesperson read a statement on behalf of the group. According to him, “we the Niger Delta Rescue Movement wish to express our deep concern regarding the recent development in Rivers State, that threatens the smooth governance of our beloved state under the leadership of governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
“It has come to our attention that certain individuals, self proclaimed as lawmakers have issued an unfounded 48 hours ultimatum to the governor to present 2025 budget.
“This attempt to destabilize the state is not only alarming but also a clear indication of a coordinated effort to incite chaos, potentially leading to calls for a stage of emergency and even impeachment.
“We call on president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene immediately and put a stop to the action of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and his associate which seem intend and dragging Rivers State into an avoidable crisis.”

They insisted that, “the people of Rivers State deserve stability, progress and a conducive environment for governance.
“Furthermore, we must make it abundantly clear that the youths of Rivers State, we will not sit idly while our state is drawn into turmoil. If the federal allocation due to Rivers State are not released promptly, we will have no choice but to take decisive action, make it include halting oil production.”
The group lamented that the state cannot “generate money to the federation account and not have our own share. Our workers deserve their salary, our government need the necessary resources to carry out essential development projects.”

To the non-Indigenes, the youths urged them to, “consider their safety and leave the state promptly, as the situation may escalate, we cherish the safety of all residence and hope for a peaceful resolution to these crisis, enough is enough.
“We stand united for the future of Rivers State, we demand respect for our leaders and focus on the development of our region.”
