The Martins Amaewhule’s led Rivers State House of Assembly, has summoned the chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd) and all the commissioners of the Commission, to appear before the house on Friday, March 7, 2025.

This is coming shortly after a stakeholders meeting organized by the RSIEC, on Wednesday, at the Commission’s premises along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway, where Enebeli revealed that the Commission has set Saturday, August 9, 2025, as date for the conduct of the State local government elections.

At the meeting, the RSIEC chairman also unveiled the election timetable and guidelines for the LGA election in line with the February 28, 2025 Supreme Court verdict.

Dismayed by this development, the lawmakers invited Enebeli and his commissioners to appear before the 10th state assembly to answer questions pertaining to his conducts in office.

The letter by the assembly clerk, Mr. Emeka Amadi, read, “at the 131st Legislative Sitting of the Second Session of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, the House deliberated on a Motion bothering on your conducts in office, particularly, with respect to the Judgment of the Supreme Court in Suit No. SC/CV/1105/2024, wherein the Court nullified the Local Government elections you purportedly conducted on the 5th day of October, 2024, in defiance of a subsisting Order of a High Court.

“Consequently, in exercise of the powers of oversight or to conduct investigations vested in the Rivers State House Assembly as enshrined in Section 128 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, I am directed to invite you and all the Commissioners of the Commission to appear before the House as follows: Friday, 7th March, 2025. Venue: Hallowed Chamber, Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters, Aba Road, Port Harcourt. Time: 10.00 am prompt.

“As already stated, you are requested to honour this summons with all your Commissioners and relevant documents empowering you to spend any fund of the Commission without an Appropriation Law from January 1st 2024 to date. Please, be formed that failure to honour this summons would leave the House with no option but to issue a warrant of arrest or invoke its powers as enshrined in Section 129 of the Constitution. Accept the warm regards of the House.”
