Protest Rocks Rivers Over Herdsmen Attacks

On Tuesday, Ogoni youths took to the streets of Rivers State, with placards to demand that immediate actions be taken to stop Fulani herdsmen attacks in Eleme, Gokana, Khana, and Tai LGAs.

The youths from various local government areas of Ogoni also demanded an increased security measures to protect lives and property.

They further called for justice for victims and families of those attacked by the alleged Fulani herdsmen.

National President of South-South Youths Initiative, Mr. Imeabe Saviour Oscar, who spoke on behalf of the protesting youths demanded an immediate end to the violence and insecurity ravaging communities in Ogoniland.

Oscar who is also the Chairman of Coalition of Rivers State Youth Bodies and Publicity Secretary of MOSOP, revealed that the peaceful demonstration was to condemn and ensure an end to the alleged Fulani herdsmen activities in Ogoni.

He noted that the protest which took off at UTC junction Abonnema Wharf, would continue to the office of the state commissioner of police.

“This peaceful protest is to demand action from authorities to protect Ogoni people and lands from escalating violence and insecurity perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen.

“All genuine supporters and indigenes of Ogoni are urged to join and make their voices heard.

“Let’s stand united and demand an end to violence and insecurity in our communities. Enough is enough!”
