Encouraged by the success of the maiden edition of Abi/Yakurr marathon that was held late last year in Ugep, Cross River State, the organizer and the founder of the competition, Mr. Debra Rich has mapped out strategies that will attract more youths and earn the long distance race a nationwide recognition.
In an interview with TNN Sports in Calabar, Mr. Rich said, plans are underway for them to reach out to good number of multi-Nationals, organizations, spirited individuals and even churches to popularize the race and provide enticing package for the runners.
He said since sports was a unifying factor and helped to take the youths off the streets, there was the need for government and people of goodwill to support sporting activities through sponsorship, stressing that the gesture would dissuade youths from social vices.
He also revealed plans to introduce children’s race in an effort to catch them young. According to him, Cross River State would produce star runners who will do the state and nation proud in long distance race in future.
