Natives and residents of Rivers State have poured encomium on the state born Grammy award winner, Mr. Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Born, for renovating the Cheshire Home at old Port Harcourt township.
The renovated Cheshire Home for the disabled was commissioned during the weekend. Those present during the commissioning were a former commissioner in the state, Dagogo Jack, a former deputy speaker of the federal house of representatives, RT. Hon. Austin Opara and the wife of Pastor Tonye Cole, Mrs. Sylvia Cole.”
Others were Isaac Okemini, Mr Jeremiah Victor George, Miss Betty Peters, with Burna Boy’s father, Chief Samuel Ogulu as the chairman of the occasion.
Expressing their gratitude to the artiste, some of the persons who spoke with TNN explained that the Cheshire Home had been in dire need of urgent rehabilitation following its dilapidated state.
They described Burna Boy as a messiah sent by God to salvage them from their sufferings and save the place from ruin by giving it a facelift.
A top comedian in Port Harcourt, Angel Attah, who is known by his stage name, Angel D’Laff explained that this was not the first time the Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer-Burna Boy, came through for his people.
Attah who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the PH Comedy Club recalled that, “during the COVID-19 lock down period, Burna Boy reached out to villages and towns in ensuring that homes get food and medicals.
“The truth of the matter is that we in this region, we don’t talk about the good things our people do, we concentrate so much in hitting each other, dragging political stool from one end to another, so when people make giant stripes, they don’t talk about it.
“In the West you will see the likes of other musicians and individuals do something and they will blow it out of proportion and all that. Look at many blogs today from this region, how many of them are talking about it, how many? But if it’s quarrel between Burna Boy and another artiste you will see them.”
He explained that, “Cheshire Home in old Port Harcourt township has been experiencing dilapidation over time and Burna Boy, the Grammy award winning music star, our pride from Rivers State decided to give a reaching hand in support to give a facelift.
“Burna Boy gave this place a modern and beautiful, edifying structure, improving on what is here and ofcourse digitalizing the home. God bless him and continue to lift him from grace to grace. In this journey and others, he will never be stranded.”
He added that the renovation of the Cheshire Home by Burna Boy was done in partnership with, “the Reach NG, a foundation through which they reach out to organizations, bodies and individuals in need. It is headed by Mrs. Floretta Rogers Halliday.”
