There were sporadic gun shots in some parts of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Monday. There real reason for the commotion which was said to have started around the INEC office was not clear as at press time.
But from the INEC office, the gun shots were heard in parts of GRA, forcing owners of shops to shut down and run for safety.
TNN however learnt that the crisis may not be unconnected with efforts by the APC to get election materials used on March 18 from INEC, to enable them file their petition against the victory of the PDP candidate, Sim Fubara.
Sources said some suspected thugs invaded the environs of the INEC office and started firing shots. The youths were said to be loyal to both the APC and the PDP.
An eye witness told TNN that there has been some disquiet in the New GRA area of Port Harcourt since Monday morning, due to the gun shots. He confirmed that shop owners have been forced to close their doors, while motorists have had to flee the roads.
