Chairperson of the Women with Like Minds, Becky Gabriel has ruled out the possibility of manipulating the 2023 elections, saying politicians with dubious plans will be too shocked at what they will see in the field on Election Day.
“This election is about the electorates, the poor suffering masses will speak through their vote, it will certainly not be business as usual. The outcome of the election, I mean the result will represent the true decision made by the electorates in the polling units with their PVC, because votes will count.
“Let me also beg our politicians, please come out with the money, give us, bribe us, anything you call it, just give us the money, but I want to assure you that we will take it, and add a big thank you very much, but we will still vote our conscience,” she said in an interview with TNN.
While some physically challenged persons have continued to show their support for the governorship hopeful of the National Rescue Movement NRM, High Chief Sobomabo Jackrich, women leaders in their hundreds gathered at the residence of the House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Obio/Akpor Constituency II, Mrs. Emilia Lucky Amadi, to drum support for her.
The women leaders from various communities of Eneka expressed appreciation to the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for instructing and ensuring that women are given the opportunity to occupy leadership positions across the state.
Speaking during the visit, leader of the delegation, Mrs. Eunice Mbata encouraged women to speak with one voice. While affirming their resolve to support the PDP house of assembly candidate, she said “we shall give you all the needed support to achieve your electoral victory, because your victory in the forthcoming election is victory to all of us as women, as you win, we know that every woman in Obio/Akpor Constituency 11 have won, that is why we are assuring you that because we believe in you, we trust you, we know you, we will continue to stand by and with you.
Describing the emergence of Emilia in the primary as a golden opportunity, Mrs. Chisa Nathan Ejekwu assured the candidate of their massive support. She also called for proper sensitization, adding that the women will do all within their power to secure victory for their candidate.
In her remarks, Mrs. Amadi while appreciating the state governor and leadership of the PDP for the opportunity, assured the women of her total commitment towards women empowerment.
Speaking with TNN in an exclusive interview on the governorship ambition of Jackrich, leader of the physically challenged who led his members to the NRM Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Prince Amuda Chigozie explained reasons they chose to support Jackrich.
In his words, “the reality is this, there has been series of governors in the time past, there have been series of candidates in the time past but it’s difficult for you to see anyone of them that could accord that utmost recognition to persons with disability in Rivers State.
“A lot of them are doing that for the sake of that political era, for the sake of that political intention, but in his capacity as a man, not as a candidate of any political party, he has been so supportive, helpful to a lot of persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable persons in Rivers State, not particularly because he is contesting, far before now he has been helping a lot of people.
“So we deem it fit to give him that support, if he could do it with his personal resources, what about when he clinches the office of the governor of Rivers State, that means, with the state resources, he is going to empower, he is going to help people and persons with disabilities to cling a higher level in the society, that’s one of our reasons among others.”
