Parliamentarian Flays Kidnap of Ex -C’River LG Chair

The Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives committee on Petroleum, Dr Alex Egbona has condemned the kidnap of Mr Ubi Itam Etta, popularly called Bom Boy. Etta was kidnapped at his fuel station in Ugep about three days ago.

Fire Wrecks Havoc In Rivers Community  

Etta is a former chairman of Yakurr Local Government of Cross River State. The kidnappers were said to have taken him away and burnt his car before taking him via the river to an unknown destination.

It is not clear if contacts have so far been made with the family.

In a statement on Wednesday, Egbona who represents the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives said it was belly-aching to hear that the former local government chairman had been kidnapped.

Egbona said it was unfortunate that kidnappers were still on the prowl in some parts of Cross River State, despite the efforts of the state government in fighting insecurity and other vices.

Saying that there was no justification for such criminal actions, the lawmaker urged security operatives in the state to ensure that they do all within their powers to secure the release of the former council chairman.

“The news of the kidnap of Bom Boy(Mr Etta) came to me with a rude shock. I am unable to understand why these kidnappers are still harassing citizens and taking them hostage. Nobody deserves to be treated this way.

“Come to think of the psychological torture and inhuman treatment they make their victims to go through. Come to think of what their family members go through in times like this. This is totally condemnable and I condemn the criminal action.

“I am calling on our security operatives to make sure that they secure his unconditional release and also make sure that he is unhurt. Bom Boy is our son and deserves the right to life and freedom of movement. He must be released unhurt and without delay,” Egbona said.
