President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Cross River state, Ugoji Nwabueze has condemned the fixing of election by a group of Igbos in the state. He said their actions could be interpreted as calling for confusion and further crisis.
He said this in a press statement disclosed to TNN where he warned the general public to disregard the election notice as it was not done following the right steps. He also charged the chapter chairmen whose tenures have elapsed to conduct chapter elections.
The statement reads thus: “The attention of the President of Ohanaeze, Cross River State has been drawn to a laughable and ridiculous Notice that Ohanaeze General election will take place at Ikom on the 8th of May, 2021.
“I am told the questionable election is put together by the already discredited Care Taker Committee that is not protected by any known law in Ohanaeze Constitution which never provided for a Care Take Committee.
“According to Lord Denim, a legal sage and icon, you cannot put something on nothing and expect it to stand. An illegal structure can only produce a further illegal Executive.
“Everyone knows that there is crisis currently in Ohanaeze, Cross River State, it implies there that only one section is going for the election.
“The Presudent take serious exception that the said illegal election was fixed at Ikom which is not the headqarters of Ohanaeze and will not, just to slight the Patron of Ohanaeze, Cross River State, Nze Dr Ezenwa Odurukwe, and other Elder Statesmen whose peace initiatives already at advanced stage has secured relative peace from both parties. Now, Ndi Igbo knows those reaping from the crisis.
“Proceeding further while the peace process is on-going is a further invitation to anarchy and chaos. I know those to hold responsible.
“I expect some chapter chairmen whose tenures have already ended to organise chapter elections rather, if they intend to go to equity with clean hands.
“Many of the chapter chairmen whose tenures have expired are now mere masquerades with discordant drummers dancing naked at village square.
“Take notice therefore that the president disclaims such as he never summoned any meeting for such purpose and was not privy to any electoral Committee constituted by the House through the instrumentality of the President for any such date and venue of election.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard the said notice of election as figment of imagination of desperadoes”.
