NYSC Penalises 26 Recalcitrant Members

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Rivers State coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, has encouraged corps members of the 2024 Batch B Stream II who served in the state and concluded their service on Thursday, to draw inspiration from the positive experiences of their service year as they move forward in life.

Oleghe gave this encouragement during a low-key passing-out ceremony held on Thursday, at the Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt.

In his closing remarks, he announced that out of over 3,000 corps members who completed their service in the state, 26 will serve an extension of service ranging from one to three months, while six others are required to repeat the entire service year.

Oleghe also revealed that one corps member was selected for the prestigious State Honours Award.

He commended the Corps Members for upholding the core values and ideals of the NYSC Scheme, noting their exemplary, selfless, and committed service in their host communities.

The NYSC coordinator praised the impact they made across various sectors, describing their contributions as both meaningful and commendable.

He further urged the outgoing corps members to embrace the role of nation-builders by utilizing the skills they acquired during the service year, especially through entrepreneurship and self-employment initiatives.

Oleghe also cautioned them against depending solely on white-collar jobs, encouraging them to be proactive and innovative in shaping their futures.

Reflecting the sentiment of the state government and its people, whom he said “are very pleased with the enormous contributions of Corps Members to the State’s economic growth and development.” He expressed appreciation for the corps members’ significant contributions to the state’s socio-economic development.
