No Other Political Party In Itu, Except PDP, Says Udom’s Commissioner
2 min readThe Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, has tasked the people of Itu Local Government Area to remain peaceful and united. This is even as he has said that no other party exists in the local government other than the PDP.
The commissioner who made the charge during a Stakeholders’ Meeting on Sunday, urged the people to Chart the way forward for the area by shunning what he described as hatred and infighting.
He said the successes recorded by the PDP in the Itu LGA should be protected through togetherness and noted that instead of pursing selfish personal interests, the people should have the interest of Itu LGA at heart.
“I’m appealing to everyone in Itu LGA, please, let’s be together, let’s be united. There is no way that we can achieve development in the face of hatred or infighting. If we pursue the interest of Itu LGA, it means we have pursued our general interest. We must not pursue personal interest”, he said.
On the purported existence of other political parties in the area, Mr Okon said, “as far as Itu LGA is concerned, I know there is no other political party than PDP. Maybe it’s on paper, but in reality, PDP is the only party we have in Itu LGA.”
He thanked the Local Government Chapter Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Itu LGA and reassured them of the Governor’s commitment to their welfare.
The Commissioner particularly warned the people against administering or receiving fetish oaths for any political reason, saying their loyalty should be only to the Governor.
“The Governor is aware of this meeting as the leader of the party and has asked me to tell you that he wants the party to be together. I’m sure nobody was given any oath before being elected into any office.

Your loyalty is to the Governor and no one else. The Governor has taken care of the youths and I’m very sure the next set is the party. He knows you need something to work with. And personally, I will also give my total support to the party as usual”, he said.
Others who spoke including the Member representing Itu State Constituency, Hon. Kufre Edidem, Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Barr. Ettetim Onuk, Chapter Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Victor Okon, among others, all harped on the need for peace and unity of purpose by Itu people.
