There is no indication that local government elections may hold in Cross River State soon, according to findings by TNN.

But Heads of Local Government Authorities in the 18 local governments are expected to take over the affairs of the councils from tomorrow. The tenure of the councillors and chairmen expires today.

Dr. Innocent Eteng, Permanent Secretary, General Administration Office of the Secretary to the State Government said on Thursday in a statement that the governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu has ordered the HOLGAs to take over the councils immediately their tenure expires.

A top APC leader in the state confided in TNN on Thursday that with the current financial status of the state, it will be difficult to contemplate an election in the local governments anytime soon.

It was the issue of funding that prevented the immediate past governor, Prof Ben Ayade from conducting the election which was expected to hold in March this year.
