NDDC Cancels Projects Inauguration In Bayelsa Over Death Of Dep Gov

Projects that were billed for commissioning in Bayelsa State this week, by the Niger Delt Development Commission, NDDC, have been cancelled in honour of the late deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

This is even as the commission has condoled with the government and people of the state, according to a statement jointly signed by the board chairman, Chiedu Ebie, and the managing director, Dr Sam Ogbuku.

About the end of last month, when the state-owned aircraft made its first landing at the state airport, Ogbuku was on the dance floor with the governor and the late deputy governor, as they celebrated the historic feat.

But about two weeks later, Ewrudjakpo died after a heart attack, a development that has shocked Ogbuku and the entire NDDC management.

The statement reads in part: “Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was a man of candour, unwavering commitment, and exceptional dedication to public service; virtues that earned him the well-deserved reputation of a tireless and “workaholic” Deputy Governor.

“From his impactful tenure as Commissioner for Works in Bayelsa State, where he played a pivotal role in advancing infrastructural development, to his distinguished service as Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ewhrudjakpo consistently demonstrated competence, vision, and an unyielding passion for the progress of his people. His life was defined by service, sacrifice, and a resolute commitment to the common good.

“Senator Ewhrudjakpo served Bayelsa State and Nigeria with remarkable humility, sincerity, and patriotism. He was a leader who embodied integrity and simplicity, setting a shining example worthy of emulation.

“His legacy of selfless service, principled leadership, and devotion to humanity will endure and continue to inspire generations yet unborn.

“May the Almighty God grant comfort, strength, and fortitude to all who mourn this irreplaceable loss, and may the gentle soul of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty Father.”
