As part of her national special thanksgiving service to usher in the New Year, the Lutheran Church of Nigeria presented Luther Ambassador International awards to Head of the Civil Service, Akwa Ibom state, Effiong Essien and Cross River state Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr. Inyang Asibong.
Speaking at the investiture which held at the National headquarters of the church at Obot Idim in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, National President of the church, Most Rev. Christian Ekong noted that the award symbolises sacred responsibilities and God’s call for them to serve Him in that capacity.
He said the duo were selected as a way of encouraging them to continue in their selfless services to God and humanity, adding that it also serves as a motivation for others to emulate their humanitarian gestures.
In his sermon titled; “Called by Christ to Bear Fruit”, Archbishop Ekong said the church begins its year by marking the feast of the baptism of Jesus Christ that signalled His earthly ministry. He added that the baptism of Jesus Christ brought light into the world, thereby providing hope and redemption for Christians.
In their reactions, the awardees who led in the thanksgiving session, expressed their gratitude to God for the elevation. They also appreciated the church for the honour accorded to them, promising not to relent in impacting humanity.
The Luther Ambassador International Award is the highest honour of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria. It is usually conferred on some deserving members as a means of encouraging them to render greater services to the church and humanity.
