The Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Alwell Onyesoh, has described as fake, ridiculous, the allegation linking him and his supporters to the killing of a member of the OSPAC vigilante group in Umuayagu village in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Onyeso who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-governmental Affairs, debunked the accusation, adding that it was the ‘handiwork of the underworld’.

In a release by Mr. Peter Oriri, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the lawmaker explained that the accusation was baseless, inordinate, malicious, fallacious and intended to tarnish his image and reputation.

Onyeso condemned the spread of what he described as misinformation and expressed his disappointment over a supposed attempt to defame his character.

According to him, “the reports circulating on social media and certain online platforms are not only false, untrue but also malignant in nature.

“Since my arrival in Rivers State, I have remained at my residence in Port Harcourt and have no involvement in the purported local government elections or related activities.”

The lawmaker who expressed shock over what he described as “campaign of cyber-attacks and disinformation aimed at discrediting him” insisted that he was going to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the said rumours.

“Etche has been peaceful since I arrived in Rivers State yesterday, it is like a holiday and the news of a vigilante member’s death is both surprising and disturbing to me.

“If such an incident has indeed occurred, I will work with the relevant security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Onyesoh further distanced himself and his supporters from any insinuations or claims suggesting involvement in the alleged incident.

He urged the public to disregard the supposed misleading reports and warned individuals and media outlets allegedly spreading fake news to desist forthwith or face legal consequences.

The Senator reaffirmed that he remained “committed to serving my senatorial district with integrity and promoting peace and development in Rivers East Senatorial District.”
